Interview: Gianna Sette - Owner Sette Salon

Meet Gianna Sette, Owner Sette Salon - Serving Henderson and Las Vegas Areas.

What drew you to become a hairstylist?

I started doing hair when I was 13 years. Hair has always been the door for me to express myself and I think it’s the backbone of my life. I love making great hair experiences for people.

What was it like going to Vidal Sassoon?

It was truly a dream come true. Everyone in the industry knows if you ever wanted to be a great stylist you needed to follow the Sassoon technique. However, It was very difficult to get in and very expensive. When I found out that I was accepted, I was elated. I became not only a better haircutter but a better person.

What is your favorite part about your job?

I love the end of the appointment when the client feels really good about themselves.

What has been the biggest obstacle you have faced so far as a business owner?

My biggest obstacle has been feeling like I don’t deserve to own a salon, I’m too young to own a salon. People are going to think I haven’t earned this yet. That’s always been the biggest obstacle for me.

What happens when a client asked for a style that doesn’t suit them? How do you respond?

This happens more often than you think. I believe in honesty on every level with my clients. If I don’t think the style will work for them, I tell them. Together we try to develop a style that works for them. Tell us about your salon. I wanted the vibe to be very calm and relaxing spa atmosphere. At the same time, I wanted it to be an upbeat and exciting experience for my clients. With that in mind, I divided the salon into two distinct spaces and people are naturally drawn to the area that speaks to them. I wanted a very pampered, “no rush” feeling. Attention to detail is very key and with that in mind, we offer a variety of drink and food items, the absolute softest and most lush robes we could find and chairs and sink areas that take all the client’s needs into consideration. I wanted to make it a very pampered experience.

Do you have any advice for aspiring stylists?

Yes! Follow your passion and don’t be afraid to take risks. Be the absolute best you can be in your field. Focus on one thing at a time and try not to get caught up in things that are beyond your control.

Where do you see your business in three years?

I have plans to expand to New York City over the next several months, and by the end of next year expanding to Los Angeles. I plan on adding more hair stylists to meet the growing demand for our regular in salon
