Meet Alan Shaw — Realtor Serving the New Jersey Shore for 15 years


How long have you been in business?

I have been a realtor for 25 years. How well do you know the area? Very well. I grew up in this area, got married and am raising my family here.


How many clients do you represent at a time?

I limit my time to 2 or 3 serious clients at a time. By serious, I mean clients that are ready to buy/sell right now.


Who would I be working with on your team?

Depending on what your needs are would depend on what level associate would be assigned to you. If you’re relocating and don’t have much time, I would assign someone with more experience. If it’s a situation, where someone is just putting out feelers and are not sure what they want to do as far as moving, I would assign someone with a bit more time on their hands in order to give the client more time to go out looking at properties.


What’s your typical marketing plan for selling properties?

There is not “typical” marketing plan, since every property is different. Obviously, price sets the stage for how far we are willing to go with advertising and staging and investment. In other words, a $4,000,000 property would get a whole different plan than a $400,000 property.


How much commission do you receive when you sell a property?

My usual commission was 6% but my new commission rate is 3% and it's making business explode.


How often will we be in touch? As often as I need to be in order to get the job done. I never want to feel that I’m bothering a client by calling too much. By the same token, I never want a client to feel that he or she is bothering me. I want my clients to feel like they can call me as often as they need to feel comfortable with their transaction.


Would you say you are more of a buyer’s agent or a seller’s agent? Definitely a seller’s agent.


How deep is your professional network if we need contractors?

After 15 years, my network reach is quite extensive. I have contacts throughout the contractor network.
